Access
Most of the access to the park are from the
Long Furlong Estate to the north of the park. These are from the ends of
Boulder Drive, Eldridge Close and alder Close. There is a foot and cycle
path which runs east-west from Oxford Road to Dunmore Road which skirts
the north-east corner of the park giving a number of ways in. You
can also access the park from Dunmore road. The only way in from the
south is from Hillview Road although there is a path from South Avenue
which skirts the east of the park.
Connectivity
The Pen Lane path skirts the east of the
park. This is part of an old footpath which runs all the way from
South Avenue to Sunningwell Village. There is a north-south footpath
through the park which connects the Long Furlong Estate to Hillview Road in the older
part of Abingdon
Walk
9 our Healthy
Abingdon Circular Walks passes through the gardens and Walk

The Gardens
Long Furlong is a large housing
estate in North Abingdon built in the 1980s. Rather than
having it abut the older part of of North Abingdon, a large green area
was left and this is now a glorious space. It is banana shaped measuring
about 600m from the tip to stem and 140m across the widest part.
There is a football pitch at the
eastern end and a pleasant children's play area a short walk from the
Long furlong School and the Community Centre.
The rest of the space comprises
open grass area and clumps of mature trees. The area is crisscrossed
footpath some of which are paved and others created by footfall in the
park. The open areas give many beautiful vistas between the mature
trees. The areas amongst the trees are quite wild to harbour wild
life. There are benches around the park, mostly by the children's play
area. Some of the benches are of an interesting rustic design.
